The CANDU year in review
Creators
Description
The CANDU scene in 1983 is reviewed. The excellent performance of Point Lepreau is typical of the four CANDU 600s which started up in 1983. One unit of Pickering B also started. Construction of the Darlington station is proceeding. CANDU reactors in general maintained their high capacity factors, although these were reduced by the shutdown of Pickering-1 and -2 near the end of the year following a pressure-tube break in Pickering-2. An achievement of ongoing service work is the new CIGAR device for in-site inspection and gauging of pressure tubes. A safeguard system has been developed and installed in the CANDU 600s
