Irradiation risks for hospital staff working with radiotechnetium

  • 1. Aberdeen Univ. (UK)

Description

The handling of technetium-99m can lead to the irradiation of personnel during the five main stages of its use. Experience shows that the nurses and radiopharmacists are subjected to an exposure difficult to reduce below a certain threshold, but with adequate precautions and job rotation the dose received by the personnel is nevertheless very slight. The practicians themselves, who have been the centre of attention over the last few years, undergo a negligible irradiation
