Training of reliable detection of reinforcing steel in reinforced-concrete power plant components

Description

Inspection periods of nuclear power plants are often used for retrofitting measures to ensure higher safety. This often involves fastening by means of anchor bolts, in reinforced-concrete components with a thick steel core. Non-destructive tests are required for accurate identification of steel-free areas. While this seems to be a simple test, it was found in practice that there is need for better training of testing staff in the application of the available nondestructive test methods. The contribution describes the training strategy developed for the ZfPBau sector. It can be used as a reference method for further training schedules.
