Analysis of hydrogen isotope in water by Zn reduction method

  • 1. Beijing Univ. (Chian). Dept. of Chemistry

Description

10 μl portion of water is reduced by 0.2g Zn at 450 deg C in a flame-sealed borosilicate tube to prepare hydrogen for D/H analysis. An inlet appliance is attached directly to the mass spectromester for breaking the sealed tube and admitting the sample without further processing. V-SMOW, SLAP, GISP, and Tap Water of Beijing University (BZ) were measured by a VG SIRA-24 mass spectrometer. The reproducibility for replicate analysis of water sample is within +-1%. δSLAP/V-SMOW = (-422.4+-0.4)/1000, δGISP/V-SMOW = (-187.2+-0.3)/1000, and the normalized values δGISP/V-SMOW/SLAP = (-189.8+-0.4)/1000, δBZ/V-SMOW/SLAP = (-65.2+-0.6)/1000 have been obtained, and the results are in agreement with the published values
