Boron effect on plastic deformation and fracture mechanisms of titanium α-alloys

  • 1. Leningradskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR)

Description

The boron effect on the Ti-4%Al-2%V alloy structure and also plastic deformation and fracture mechanisms are studied aimed to find out the nature of a modifying effect in titanium α-alloys. The refined alloy has contained 0.002%B. Intergranular structure refining is shown to bring to a slight but stable increase in strength and ductility at the same time decreasing an impact strength. It is stated that a boron effect on the mechanical properties is not stipulated only by boride phase precipitates but by changes in the habit crystallography
