Bubble-damage polymer detectors for neutron dosimetry

Description

A new type of direct-reading neutron dosimeter has been developed at the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories. This detector is prepared by suspending super-heated droplets in a solid-elastic medium. In this metastable state, the droplets can be triggered by neutrons giving rise to visible vapour bubbles which are trapped at the sites of formation. The bubbles are counted to give a measure of the neutron dose. A summary of a few of the characteristics of the dosimeter is described
