Description
The influence of several additives (H2O, HNO3, CO2, ethanol, n-pentane and NO2) on the rate of 60Co γ-radiolysis of H2-O2 and H2-O2-N2-mixtures in the slow reaction region is investigated. In the studied temperature, composition and pressure range, the additives lead to more or less pronounced inhibition of the reaction. H2O and CO2 have only a small deactivating effect, whereas n-pentane and NO2 were found to be the most effective. At NO2 contents higher than about 0.03 vol% no further deactivation could be detected. The results are discussed on the basis of elementary reaction steps given in the literature. (author)
