Stephan Liedtke examines the global oil supply security policy of the USA and the People's Republic of China. He shows which foreign policy measures the two most powerful states in the world use to increase their oil supply security and to promote stable oil prices, the production, procurement and safe physical transport of foreign oil. The empirical investigation is guided by a theoretical model for the analysis of supply-oriented energy foreign policy, which makes a first contribution to the theoretical location of energy foreign policy and can in future be used in comparable research approaches for systematic and theory-driven studies.

Abstract (German)

Stephan Liedtke untersucht die weltweite Ölversorgungssicherheitspolitik der USA und der VR China. Er zeigt, welche außenpolitischen Maßnahmen die beiden mächtigsten Staaten der Welt einsetzen, um ihre Ölversorgungssicherheit zu erhöhen und stabile Ölpreise, die Produktion, den Bezug und den sicheren physischen Transport von ausländischem Öl zu fördern. Geleitet wird die empirische Untersuchung durch ein theoretisches Modell für die Analyse angebotsorientierter Energieaußenpolitik, das einen ersten Beitrag zur theoretischen Verortung von Energieaußenpolitik leistet und künftig in vergleichbaren Forschungsansätzen für systematische und theoriegeleitete Studien genutzt werden kann.
