Laser acceleration of particles in plasma

Large amplitude electrostatic fields may develop in plasmas. Let ne be the electron density, δ the relative amplitude of the density perturbation due to an electron plasma wave. If the phase velocity of the wave is approximately equal to the light velocity, the amplitude of the electric field of the wave is E (GV/m) = 103 δ (ne(cm-3)/1020)1/2. Abstract (French)

Les plasmas peuvent etre le siege de champs electrostatiques de grande amplitude. Si ne est la densite electronique, si δ est l'amplitude relative de la perturbation de densite associee a une onde plasma electronique, et si la vitesse de phase de cette onde est proche de la vitesse de la lumiere, l'amplitude du champ electrique associe a l'onde est donnee par E (GV/m) = 103 δ (ne(cm-3)/1020)1/2. Plusieurs methodes ont ete proposees pour generer de telles ondes dans les plasmas. L'excitation resonnante par battement de deux ondes laser est un des concepts les plus seduisants
