Statistical analysis of elastic beam with unilateral frictionless supports
Description
A variational formulation of the elastic beam problem with unilateral frictionless supports is presented. It is shown that the solution of this problem can be characterized as the solution of a variational inequality or as the solution of the constrained minimum of the total potential energy of the structure. THe finite dimensional counterpart of this variational formulation is obtained using the finite element method, and the Gauss-Seidel method with projection and overrelaxation can be used to obtain an approximate solution. In order to show the numerical performance of the present approach some numerical examples are also presented. (Author)

Apresenta-se a formulacao variacional do problema da flexao de vigas elasticas com apoios puntuais unilaterais sem friccao. Mostra-se que a solucao deste problema e a solucao de uma inequacao variacional ou do minimo com restricoes da energia potencial total da estrutura. O metodo dos elementos finitos e empregado na reformulacao do problema em dimensao finita e o algoritmo de Gauss-Seidel com projecao e sobrerelaxacao permite a obtencao de solucoes aproximadas. Apresentam-se alguns exemplos numericos para mostrar a viabilidade pratica do algoritmo proposto. (Autor)Files
