Description
Results are presented of computer simulated neutron spin echo experiments which were based on the neutron time-of-flight technique applied to a white pulsed beam of polarized neutrons. The principle of the neutron spin echo method, the neutron spin motion, the spin rotary field for a white beam and the connection between scattering function and time-of-flight spectrum are demonstrated. The influence of neutron pulse duration and polarization degree of the primary beam on energy resolution and that of field inhomogeneities on the spin echo has been ascertained. Furthermore, the energy resolution is examined as a function of the path integral of precession fields. It is shown that energy resolution of 10-7 eV can be achieved by technically feasible magnetic fields of 0.1 Tm
