Surface current pattern characteristics in the east sea of Enshu

Description

Daily surface current patterns were investigated with VHF ocean radar in the sea off Enshu where unsteady currents are dominant. As the result of evaluating ocean radar measurement accuracy, the surface currents detected by ocean radar coincided well with that of electromagnetic current-meter at stationary point and that measured by GPS drifting buoys. By an analysis of self-organizing maps, it is found that west current pattern in autumn and southeast current pattern in winter are dominant respectively with both average speed of 19 cm/s and both current patterns are strongly associated with the seasonal wind patterns. As a result of investigating horizontal current shear in offshore direction with an electromagnetic current-meter and ocean radar, nearshore current 1 km off the coast changes discontinuously against offshore current on the continental shelf. Abstract (Japanese)

不規則流動場の遠州灘東部海域を対象に,VHF帯海洋レーダによる2015年1年間の連続観測から,SOM(自己組織化マップ)により代表的な日平均流パターンを抽出した.海洋レーダの測定精度について検討した結果,定点における電磁流速計の流速およびGPS漂流ブイによる0.5m層の流速と良い対応を示した.また,流動パターンとして,平均流速19 cm/s程度の秋季西流パターンと冬季南東流パターンが卓越し,これらの流動パターンの成因として風パターンとの関連性が示された.また,電磁流速計と海洋レーダの観測データを用いて,陸棚縁辺部を挟む岸沖方向の水平流速シアパターンを調べた結果,岸近傍は,陸棚上の流動パターンに対して,不連続的に変化することを明らかにした.(著者)
