Confirmation of statistical scaling at √s = 540 GeV/c
Description
The hypothesis of scaling in the statistical variable xsub(s)=x(√S)sup(α) is verified using accelerator data from 19.6 to 540 GeV in the CM system. Agreement between statistical scaling distributions and the experimental spectra is obtained for α=0.26. Pseudo-rapidity densities measured with the CERN collider for different multiplicity bands are consistent with semi-inclusive spectra predicted by this model, confirming in this way both statistical scaling and KNO scaling. A model of exclusive hadron interactions based on these semi-inclusive spectra, which connects the observed region of phase space with the fragmentation region, is described. Using this model the inclusive and semi-inclusive spectra of the leading particles are derived by means of Monte-Carlo simulations. (author)
