The total ionization of low energy ions in a tissue equivalent gas and its component gases: absolute measurements
Description
A description is given of the absolute determination of the total ionization created by ions in the lower keV energy range completely stopped in a gas. After a short review of the existing experimental and theoretical works in this field a complete description and analysis of the experimental method is given. Results measured with an accuracy of better than 1% are presented for hydrogen ions in the 10 to 60 keV energy range stopped in a tissue equivalent gas,TEG, and its component gases, CH4, CO2 and N2.
