Hematologycal disorders in mice of C57BL family exposed to full body radiation by Radioactive Cobalt

Description
Seven groups of 5C57B1 mice were submitted to full body radiation ina a single dose of 1.000 r (258m C/Kg). Each group was sacrified respectively on the 5th, 7th, 8th, and 10th day after exposition to radiation. Another group (8th) of 5 animals was used as control group, and was to submitted to radiation. Before sacrificing the animals, peripheral blood was collected to prepare extensions which were stained by Leishman. Then the left femur was removed in order to prepare sections of the bone marrow. We observed accentuated reduction of blood corpuscles, parallel to a similar medullar depression that occurred progressively until the 10th day, when aplasia was almost total. At that time the bone marrow showed almost exclusively lymphocytes, plasmocytes, fibroblasts and endothelial cells, with arare megacaryocytes. However, blood platelets remained normal in the peripheral blood. (author)

Sete grupos de 5 camundongos da raca B57 B1 submeteram-se a radiacao corpo-inteiro em dose unica de 1.000 radas (258m C/Kg). Cada grupo foi sacrificado, respectivamente nos 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 e 10 dias apos a exposicao a radiacao. Um 8 grupo de 5 animais servia de controle, nao se submetendo a radiacao. Antes do sacrificio, colhia-se sangue periferico para a feitura de extensoes, as quais foram coradas pelo Leishman. Em seguida, retirava-se o femur E, para a realizacao de cortes de medula ossea. Verificou-se acentuada reducao dos elementos figurados do sangue, paralela a igual depressao medular, que se fez progressivamente ate o 10 dia, quando a aplasia era quase total. Nessa ocasiao, verificaram-se na medula ossea, quase que exclusivamente, linfocitos, plasmocitos, fibroblastos e celulas endoteliais, alem de raros megacariocitos, mantendo-se entretanto, as plaquetas no sangue periferico em numero proximamente normal.
