The MIT in-pile loops for coolant chemistry and corrosion studies

  • 1. Massachusetts Inst. of Tech., Cambridge (USA). Nuclear Reactor Lab.

Description

A set of modular subsystems and components have been developed which can be combined in several ways to create in-pile loop facilities for experimental investigation of the effect of LWR reactor coolant chemistry on corrosion, both local and global, and on radionuclide transport and deposition. Care has been taken to scale the systems to achieve close similitude for parameters currently thought to control the phenomena of interest. Initial in-pile runs of the first of these facilities, a PWR coolant chemsitry loop, will take place soon. (author)
