Analysis on the upper tank of the TRIGA Reactor Bandung after upgrading faced to possible seismic phenomenon

Description

To upgrade TRIGA Reactor to 2000 k watts, the reactor tank in aluminum alloy is lengthened to 1.5 meters. Until now, the upper tank is constructed without adequate support. This part could contain fully more than 4.5 tons. In case of earthquake, the huge mass will vibrate horizontally. In this paper the strength of the tank structure was analyzed faced to possible seismic phenomenon. Due to certain problems, analysis used static mode approach. Loads are due to water mass attenuated by horizontal acceleration. From the analysis, if the earthquake to 0.02 g occurs, the recent tank structure may recognize its rupture. The analysis also suggests adding belt support in order to strengthen the tank structure. With five belts, the tank will securely accept earthquake until 0.1 g
