Induction of semi-dwarf mutants in bread wheat var. C-306
Creators
- 1. Indian Agricultural Research Inst., New Delhi. Nuclear Research Lab.
Description
The induction of mutations for the height reduction in C-306 was attempted by the use of the mutagenic treatments with gamma rays (20 Krad), EMS (0.1 per cent), NMU (0.1 per cent) and combination of both radiation and chemical mutagens and also the two chemical mutagens to mutagenize the seeds of C-306. The overall frequency of appearance of semi-dwarf mutants was only 0.10 percent in M2 generation. Fifty six percent of the semi-dwarf mutants segregated in M2 generation. A number of semi-dwarf mutants showing improvement over the mother strain in respect of grain yield and important agronomic traits and having high seed fertility could be isolated. (author)
