The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the principal Italian activities concerning the behavior of pressurized water reactor U-tube steam generators under accident conditions. Facilities and results to date are described for the following: (1) GEN 3 x 3 Test on steam generator thermalhydraulics; (2) FREGENE, a freon-water test section; and (3) GEST-GEN steam generator performance investigations
