Variational approach to spectra
Description
A generalized Lanczos algorithm is applied to the calculation of the mass spectrum in lattice Hamiltonian field theories. Various examples (anharmonic oscillator, the 0(3) sigma-model in 1+1D, and Yang Mills in 2+1D and 3+1D) are considered. Detailed results are presented for the 0(3) sigma-model, where we obtain agreement is obtained with the extensive Monte Carlo results of Fox et al. The method is entirely analytic in spirit, and hence easily extendable to fermions
