A CAMAC serial highway instrumentation system for process control of the Vicksi accelerators

  • 1. Hahn-Meitner-Institut fuer Kernforschung Berlin G.m.b.H. (F.R. Germany)

Description

The paper describes the application of the CAMAC Serial Highway System for data acquisition and control of a heavy ion accelerator (a combination of a 6MeV Van de Graaff and a split pole cyclotron) and its beam transport system. The Serial Highway has a length of about 300m and includes about 35 crates. The general design considerations of the system are presented and the specification and design of CAMAC components and modules which interface the peripheral equipment to the CAMAC system. Some of the major concerns are: insulation between distributed system components, High-Level-Logic-signal standards, Bypass-units for the Serial Crate Controllers and a standard subset of the CAMAC functions
