The influence of electron acceptor on the rate of photobleaching of electrons trapped in alkaline ice

Description

The photobleaching behaviour of electrons trapped in frozen 8 mol dm-3 NaOH solution has been studied. The trapped electrons produced by 2.5 μs linac pulse disappeared after a few seconds under the influence of analyzing light. The rate of photobleaching depends on the nature and concentration of the scavenger added. The addition of 1 mol dm-3 sodium phenolate increased 5 times the quantum yield of bleaching. The values of quantum efficiency of bleaching were lower than unity, indicating strong competition of retrapping of electrons even at high concentrations of the scavenger. (author)
