Currently, personal dosimeters are around the prices between $14.60 and $12.29 per unit according to ARUTEC LATAM, due to this, the opportunity for research in the synthesis of new and low-cost materials has been taken. The luminescent properties of rare earth (Ce, Tb) doped MgF2 has been studied for its application in scintillators and lasers, and there are already new works where the impurification with rare earths improve its luminescent properties. Through precipitation synthesis, a promising Eu3+ doped MgF2 material has been developed. The thermoluminescence response is composed by an intense maximum at 235°C and low intense maxima at low temperatures (56,138, 227, 300 y 375°C). This material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) obtaining a set of three crystalline phases, KNO3, MgF2 and KMgF3 and scanning electron microscopy (Sem) showing a homogeneous structure, in addition photoluminescence studies have been performed to confirm the incorporation of europium ions into the crystal network. The luminescent properties of MgF2:Eu were analyzed using different concentrations of Eu and a repeatability test of synthesis was also carried out. (author)
