A gas scintillation counter for spectral line studies in X-ray astronomy

Description

A gas scintillation counter for spectral studies in X-ray astronomy is presented. The capabilities of such an instrument are examined and compared with recent conventional proportional counter observations. It is concluded that such a device will be able to observe, with high efficiency, spectral features from both diffuse and compact X-ray sources. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Es wird ein Gasszintillationszaehler fuer Anwendungen in der Roentgen-Astronomie vorgestellt. Die Moeglichkeiten eines solchen Instruments werden untersucht und mit neueren Beobachtungen unter Verwendung konventioneller Proportionalzaehler verglichen. Es zeigt sich, dass eine derartige Anordnung die Beobachtung von Besonderheiten sowohl bei diffusen - als auch kompakten Roentgenquellen mit grosser Effizienz ermoeglicht. (orig.)
