The emergence of energy in Africa has started

This publication proposes a presentation and a synthesis of the African Energy Summit and its associated exhibition on energy and petroleum in Africa which took place in Dakar in May 2014 which gathered interveners from Western Africa, but also from North America and from the European Union. Discussions and contributions notably focussed on the implementation of a diversified energy mix, and more particularly addressed the future perspectives of oil and gas production, the development of a regional refining and distribution tool (to meet the requirements associated with a quickly increasing demand of transports and of electricity production), the transition towards a better energy mix (notably with the development of decentralised production), and the high potential of renewable energies for public lighting, communications and clean cooking. More precisely, contributions evoked international initiatives, promising discoveries offshore Senegal, the issue of a regional refining centre, the relationship between economic growth and the development of a new energy mix.
