Improving nuclear power plant thermal efficiency by adoption of the Kalina thermodynamic cycle
Description
A new thermodynamic energy cycle using a two-component working fluid is proposed as a bottoming cycle for nuclear fission power plants. The application of this cycle as a bottoming cycle for nuclear power plants involves the effective use of low-temperature turbine discharge heat which usually would be dissipated to the environment. The thermal efficiency of this system is 1.4 times greater than that of the Rankine Cycle in 400 MWe class nuclear power plants. (author)
