New quantitative CT method to determine structural bone properties
Description
This paper reports on a method of combining the bone's cross-sectional geometry with its mineral density, using quantitative CT (QCT) to predict the structural rigidity of intact tibias and healing osteotomies, and to quantitate the association between QCT findings and the local material and structural properties of healing bones. QCT was performed on eight intact canine tibias osteotomies. QCT- derived torsional rigidity, torsional strength, indentation stiffness, calcium content, new bone, porosity, and bone material density (BMD) were determined for all specimens
