Electron and photon interactions with KClO4
Description
The interaction of KClO4 with electron beam and x-ray photons was examined. From the Auger data, it was found the electrons rapidly decompose KClO4. High resolution XPS showed KClO4 to be unstable to non-monochromatic Mg and Ti photon sources and stable to monochromatized AlK/sub α/ x-ray radiation. These data are discussed in terms of degradation mechanisms involving: (1) sample heating and (2) electronic excitations or charge accumulation
