Description
A method for the efficiency calibration of a Ge(Li) detector at short souce-to -detector distance is described. It combines the multi-gamma-ray source calibration method with the distance variation method with several single-gamma-ray sources. The full-energy peak relative efficiency, full-energy peak absolute efficiency and total efficiency have been determined with an error of 1.5%, 1.6% and 4.1% respectively at the energy ranging from 120 to 1115 kev. Therefore the spectroscopy can be used effectively to measure weak gamma-ray source which may emit cascading photons. With the method, the full-energy peak relative efficiency can be calibrated using an unknown activity gamma-ray source
