Normalization of the (3He,dsub(s)) reaction and nuclear spectroscopy with the singlet deuteron

Starting from an ansatz for the unbound singlet deuteron wave function, the energy differential cross section of the (3He, singlet deuteron) stripping reaction is derived using the theories of stripping to unbound states and final-state interaction. An experimental value for the normalization constant Dsub(0c)2 (3He, singlet deuteron) of the reaction can be extracted. As a demonstration the reaction 13C(3He, singlet deuteron)14N was investigated. The energy spectra of the outgoing protons and the angular distributions of the singlet deuterons are well described by the theory. The extracted Dsub(0c)2 is used to predict the spectroscopic factors of 11C from the reaction 10B(3He, singlet deuteron)11C which agree with known values. An attempt to derive Dsub(0c)2 theoretically is discussed. Finally, by comparing (3He,d) and (3He, singlet deuteron), a counter-argument is provided to the view that the reaction model of Cotanch and Robson is crucial to explain the spectroscopy of 14N in 13C(3He,d)14N.
