Description

The Empresa Nacional de Residuos Radiactivos, S.A. (ENRESA) was set up in 1984 with the mandate to be responsible for the management of all kind of radioactive wastes generated or to be generated in Spain. The strategy and main lines of action of ENRESA's programme are provided in the General Radioactive Waste Plan (PGRR), a basic document which ENRESA is due to submit to the Ministry of Industry and Energy on a yearly basis for Government approval. This paper deals with the management of high-level radioactive waste in Spain, including the fundamental aspects serving as an operational basis for the overall management system, as well as the major projects developed to date
