US construction cost rise threatens nuclear option

Description

Studies of nuclear power plant economics carried out jointly by the US Department of Energy and United Engineers Constructors Inc. are described. Comparative figures are given for nuclear and for coal power plant. Trends in construction schedules and in labour and construction material requirements are shown. It is concluded that nuclear power in the United States may be losing its economic viability. (U.K.)
