Temperature fields and erosion on metal electrodes under micro-arc conditions
Description
A mathematical analysis is presented concerning the temperature distributions and erosion rates on the surface of cold metal electrodes caused by the micro-arcs in the channel of an open-cycle MHDG using clean fuel. The analysis is based on the experimental results of Zalkind et. al. Operating regimes are found for copper electrodes implying technologically promising electrode lifetimes. Due to insufficient experimental information, the calculated erosion values are lower bounds. Parameters are specified, for which more information is required to overcome this drawback
