Effect of Fe and Cu on corrosion behavior of Zr-Nb alloys
Description
The effects of Fe and Cu on the corrosion behavior and microstructure of Zr-Nb alloys were investigated. Each alloy was manufactured by vacuum arc remelting, hot rolling, heat treatment, cold rolling and final annealing under two annealing conditions. Corrosion tests were carried out in static autoclave under 360 .deg. C water, 400 .deg. C steam and 360 .deg. C LiOH solution. Microstructures of alloys were analyzed by using TEM/EDS and image analyzer. In 360 .deg. C water and LiOH tests, ZrNbCuFe alloys showed the best corrosion resistance but ZrNbCu alloy had a good corrosion resistance in 400 .deg. C steam test. The β quenching in the manufacturing process accelerated the corrosion rate due to the unstable β phase and small precipitates of Zr-Nb alloys
