Code compliance stress analysis of a flued head

Description
Flued heads are used to support piping in some CANDU nuclear power plants. As for the standard pipe supports, comparison with the rated loads can normally be used to demonstrate ASME code compliance of flued heads as well. However, in cases where the calculated loads exceed the rated loads or the service level transients are different than those used in the rated load capacity development, detailed analysis of flued head using ASME NB-3200 analysis may be required. This paper describes the detailed analysis used to qualify a typical flued head with changed service level transients where comparison with rated load cannot be used to demonstrate ASME Code compliance.
