Description

The structure of the four main oligomannoside carbohydrate chains from the hemagglutinin of the influenza virus A/Leningrad/385/80 (H3N2) have been established with the aid of 1H NMR spectroscopy. On the basis of the results obtained, the hypothesis has been put forward that the splitting out by α-mannosidase I of four α-1- → 2-bound mannose residues in the transformation of the oligomannoside chain into a complex one is the limiting and selective stage of the processing of the carbohydrate chains in the biosynthesis of glycoproteins
