Statistical mechanics of elastic moduli
Description
The authors consider continuous systems of particles in the framework of classical mechanics and derive a general expression for the static elastic moduli tensor in terms of correlation functions. They find sufficient conditions for the vanishing of the shear modulus. Relationships between these conditions and other insuring translational or rotational invariance are discussed
