Effects of combined hyperthermia and ionizing radiation on melanoma cells

  • 1. Essen Univ. (Gesamthochschule) (Germany, F.R.). Inst. fuer Medizinische Strahlenphysik und Strahlenbiologie

Description

DNA concentration, DNA synthesis rate, and relative DNA concentration were investigated after in-vitro hyperthermia and X-ray irradiation of human melanoma cells. Hyperthermia up to 420C and X-ray irradiation up to 400 Rdid not influence on cell proliferation; there were cell losses in the upper dose range, but proliferation of the surviving cells. Combined treatment had a synergitic effect. Cell losses were much higher after combined treatment than after only one type of treatment. However, in spite of considerable cell losses, there was no change in the DNA synthesis rate or the duration of the S-phase of the surviving cells. (orig.) 891 MG/orig. 892 RDG
