Contribution to the study of natural convection in a boiling medium with power density transfer

Description

This study has been carried out in the framework of fast reactor safety studies and deals with the fuel boiling problem in case of flow blockage at the bottom of a fuel assembly. The experimental part of this study bringss new informations characteristic of a boiling fluid bath (water) simulating in a transient and in a steady regime (pressure, temperature, void fraction, heat flux at the walls). It points out a relation between heat losses through the walls and the importance of the monophase zone of the bath. A model has been developed from the analysis of experimental results. It is based on a quasi-stationary state and allows to find the evolution of the characteristic values in confined transient regime

Abstract (French)

Cette etude s'insere dans le cadre des etudes de surete des reacteurs a neutrons rapides et s'interesse au probleme de l'ebullition du combustible dans un assemblage bouche en pied. La partie experimentale de ce travail apporte des informations inedites sur les grandeurs caracteristiques d'un bain bouillant de fluide simulant (eau) en regime transitoire et etabli (pression, temperature, taux de vide, flux de chaleur aux parois). Elle met en evidence une relation entre les pertes thermiques aux parois et l'etendue de la zone monophasique du bain. Une modelisation d'ensemble simple a ete developpee a partir de l'analyse des resultats experimentaux. Elle est basee sur une hypothese de quasi-stationnarite et permet de retrouver l'essentiel de l'evolution des grandeurs caracteristiques en regime transitoire confine
