Occupational radiation doses in the non nuclear technology field in Sweden from 1999 to 2005

Description

This report presents a summary of occupational radiation doses among personnel within non nuclear technology fields in Sweden from 1999 to 2005. During this time of period the collective dose has varied from 1.2 to 1.6 manSv, where the largest contribution comes from employees in the medical field. The highest mean doses are received within the field of industrial radiography, medical radiology, and nuclear medicine. Especially from employees working with interventional radiology and who are handling open sources. The highest individual doses have been registered by industrial radiographers, who at two different occasions received radiation doses above the defined limit value. The statistical data of the national dose register shows that a lot of employers are deficient in adequate knowledge about when and of whom personal radiation doses shall be measured. Neither do they have sufficient knowledge about when the doses shall be reported to the national dose register. Therefore SSI identifies a need of information and clarification of the routines of occupational radiation dose measurement and reporting
