Scintillation gamma spectrometer

Description

A scintillation gamma-spectrometer designed for investigations into gamma radiation bursts in cosmic space is described. The scintillation spectrometer contains m CsJ(Tl)-detectors, two guard detectors of plastic scintillator and (m+2) photoelectric converters in optical contact with them. The spectrometer electronics unit contains discriminators, in anticollision units, majority coincidence unit, time and amplitude analyzers. To increase the sensitivity of spectrometer at the expense of increasing the active surface of gamma radiation detection, m CsJ-detectors are performed in the form of hexahedral prisms, tightly contacting by the sides, installed in the light-proof casing. The spectrometer sensitivity can as well be increased by introduction of two additional m-input elements or (m-1) pulse counters and m-input majority coincidence unit, which allows one to reduce the level of background radiation detection. 2 figs
