A simplified instrument for solid-state high-γ dosimetry

Description
The characteristics of the radiation-resistant γ-dose-rate meter used as a convenient solid-state ionization chamber, are described. The instrument comprises a probe for exposure-rate measurement and a simple circuit with an I.C. operational amplifier. The temperature coefficient (<0.3%/0C) is constant between 0 and 500C at a certain dose rate, and the effects of the integral dose and the dose rate on the temperature coefficient are small. The directional dependence can be neglected by minimizing the volume of the electrode material or by compensation for electron backscattering. The practical usefulness of the dosimeter is discussed in comparison with that of commercial exposure-rate meters. (author)
