Description

The staggering phenomenon is studied in the framework of the proton-neutron interacting boson model. It is found that the quadrupole interaction between like bosons plays an important role in the description of this phenomenon. When this interaction is strong, the spectrum shows less staggering and vice versa. The staggering phenomena in the Ru isotopes and the 196Pt are studied. (author)
