Using the coulomb explosion effect of a first layer on proton acceleration

Description
It is shown by PIC simulations that higher energy protons are obtained by using 'light material' in the first layer of a double-layer target. It is shown that this is because a hard coulomb explosion occurs in the 'light material'. As a result, the protons keep accelerating for a longer time. (author)
