Shape transition of light Sm isotopes in the interacting boson model
Description
A comparison of the efficacy of the SU(5) and O(6) limits of the interacting boson model in reproducing the spectra of the neutron deficient 136-140Sm isotopes is presented. The role of the (β, γ) deformation inducing ε0 and ε2 terms in the IBM-1 Hamiltonian for generating the proper level spacings of the odd-even spins in the Kπ = 2+ band and up to high spins I π<14+ in the yrast band is illustrated, yielding results much better than obtained previously in IBM-2. The calculated B(E2) values and the B(E2) ratios are used to test the validity of the IBM empirical fits. (author)
