The nuclear energy innovation and modernization act is enacted, promoting NRC regulation reform and modernization

The Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act is enacted by USA. On January 14, 2019. The Act has two titles-'Advanced Nuclear Reactors and User Fees' and 'Uranium'-which are divided into 11 sections involving restructuring the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's user fees and annual charges, modernizing licensing process and regulatory framework, improving evacuation actions after nuclear accidents, encouraging private investment in research and test reactors, reporting the status of the licensing process for accident tolerant fuel, identifying best practices with respect to the establishment and operation of a local community advisory board, optimize the efficiency and cost of licensing matters relating to uranium recovery. The Act contributes to reforming and modernizing NRC's regulations, enhancing the reliability, efficiency and transparency of NRC reviewing commercial advanced nuclear reactor license applications, reducing the cost of the development and commercialization of advanced nuclear reactors, and expediting advanced nuclear reactor technology innovations.
