Description

We briefly review some attempts towards a field-theoretical comprehension of turbulence. After a discussion of basic phenomenological ideas, like the laminar-turbulent transition and the Kolmogrov's cascade picture of the inertial range, we introduce the fundamental set of Hopf's equations, describing the stationary statistical state of a turbulent fluid. The application of conformal field theory methods in two-dimensional turbulence is studied, as well as the computational of corrections due to realistic three-dimensional effects. (author)
