The potential use of the TL dating method in chronological studies of Late Pleistocene

  • 1. Institute of Geology of the Academy of Sciences of the Estonian SSR, Tallinn, Estonia SSR, USSR

Description

At present the thermoluminescence method has claimed particular attention because of the wide distribution of its study objects - natural quartz and feldspars in Pleistocene deposits. Since the dating of geological deposits is connected with several specific complications, geological interpretation is of great importance while using the TL technique. The above approach was applied to the study of tens of Late Pleistocene sections on the East European plain and in the Spitsbergen archipelago. In this paper, specific factual material is analysed and on this basis, the criteria of the reliability of dates are presented. (author)
