Use of geographic information system (GIS) technology for the siting of low-level and high-level radioactive wastes
Description
A GIS can be a major tool to aid decision-makers in carrying out a process to select sites for waste management facilities. The computerization available through a GIS allows for rapid processing of data to screen from a region of interest to candidate areas to potential sites. It provides flexibility in the way the results are displayed to enhance understanding by various audiences. Perhaps most important, it allows rapid and efficient sensitivity analyses of the criteria and weighting factors that are considered in the siting decision
