Excitation spectra of Light and strange baryons

Description
We discuss the performance of some recent constituent quark models in baryon spectroscopy. First we exemplify the typical behaviour of the N and Δ spectra in case the Q-Q interaction is derived from one-gluon exchange. Then we address constituent quark models with hybrid Q-Q interaction stemming from one-gluon plus meson exchanges. Finally we present the results for the light- and strange-baryon spectra produced by a chiral constituent quark model whose Q-Q interaction derives from Goldstone-boson exchange. We demonstrate that in this case a unified description of all light and strange baryon spectra can be achieved in close agreement with phenomenology. (author)
